Understanding Divorce
If you’re considering filing for divorce, you’re not alone. In America, over 50 percent of first marriages end in divorce, and around 43 percent of all marital unions ultimately are disolved. And, unfortunately, the estimated length of a divorce proceeding is one year long, so it’s not only a painful and difficult decision, but one that is often protracted and costly.
And what if you have children?
First, you must establish who will have custody. The best interest of your children is the standard that will be used to determine who will obtain custody. The Court generally must determine what is best for your children, not what is best for you as parents. The information concerning your children’s health, education, and welfare will be necessary to determine which parent, or parents, should have custody.
Your first meeting with an attorney in our office is an opportunity for you to explain your situation to us. We will discuss the legal process, how the law affects your case, and the cost to bring your situation to resolution.
